I saw one. I signed up just to see what it's all about. He is just not the type of fellow I would want to deal with. He calls people guitar geeks and since I watched one bit you end up on his mailing list. He is relentless pushing his lessons and the words he uses in the emails are like a child would use. I just unsubscribed to get ride of them.

He may be a great player yet in my opinion weird. None of it is free like he claims. Plus he sells little items.

blues90,

I used to watch Tony, he reviewed guitars for Music Villier, I used to like watching him.
I recive a weekly post from him for his channel, some times there are items of interest, he is a very dedicated guitar player and tries to keep people interested.
He gives quite a lot of free guitar little lessons, that are fine.

I like Tony. I declined his mailing list, but I watch him some on YouTube.

But I don't take the term guitar geek as a negative. Most people on the street wouldn't know the difference between a telecaster and a hummingbird, they think we are geeks because we do.

I NEED lessons, but so far nothing I have tried online works for me.

I looked into his lessons, they didn't seem any better or worst than others. Seemed kind of pricey to me.

I think he does/did a pretty good job on gear reviews.

I'm sure his target is folks younger than most of us.

seagullplayer,

I only had guitar lessons for about six months, that was about thirty years ago.
Was not that impressed, basically you paid your money for your one hour lesson, he played a song then gave you the tabs for that song, you tried to play that song from the tabs, then you went home and practiced that song for a week, next lesson same procedure but different song.
Basically by paying your money it made you practice or you looked a fool the following week.
He was the only guitar teacher locally, and he still teaches today.

What caught my interest was not the lessons, I was curious because on many of his reviews he runs the promo for the lessons so I wanted to check it out just to see what it was all about. He tosses out a teaser about the lessons. I get the geek term thing, very long ago geek and nerd were terms no one wanted to be classified as. Maybe it's
an age thing, don't consider myself a geek.

I didn't like being on his mailing list because every day there were at least 2 emails to read mainly aimed at pushing to take the on line course. I pushed the button to just see one lesson which seems to put you on his mailing list and when I watched it there was no lesson it was basically the same thing as what he shows on his reviews promo.

I have nothing against Tony he does his thing and has his place.

I guess I'm in the same boat as everyone else. Used to love watching his reviews way back when he did them for the Acoustic Letter I think it was. I liked how all his reviews were exactly consistent so you could easily compare sound to another guitar review.

I did try to follow him a bit when he left AL and ya, I did get the email thing with the lessons stuff. I just didn't want any of that so unsubbed to all of it and lost track of him shortly after.

There's too many free lessons on YT for me to ever feel justified in paying for them. I'd only pay for lessons to get me started on a brand new instrument I knew nothing about. Like for instance, if I ever seriously take up piano, I'm gonna start with lessons for a while cuz I just don't have the time I used to, to self teach myself anymore. I'm a slow learner, and even slower when I'm trying to teach myself. LOL! Did you ever see Tony Polecastro lessons? | AcousticGuitarCabin (59)

That's true Tony there are countless free guitar lessons on you tube. I never sat here and tried to do them , just watch to see if I might pick up a tip or two. Or to find my way out of a rut

Tony's lessons seem to be aimed at older people starting out or for those who stopped and want to start again. how old who knows , some looked old and many seemed to have pretty high dollar acoustics , not something an older person buys to start out at least not this older person me. Sure if you are starting out last thing you need is an acoustic that has high action making it a battle to play. You don't need to spend a small fortune these days to find a playable guitar.
