How To Make Maraschino Cherry Cookies

First, preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Melt the butter in a microwave-safe dish. Next, get out a medium-sized mixing bowl and pour the butter into it.

Add the sugars and mix until combined. Then add the egg plus the vanilla, and mix again.

At this point, you will add the food coloring, if you are using it. Mix to incorporate. Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt.

Drain excess cherry juice from jar, then lay out cherries on a cutting board. Slice cherries into quarters or halves. Add to dough. Gently mix.

Shape dough into balls and place on parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Space cookie balls apart as dough will spread as it bakes. Dough should make about 10-12 cookies. Gently press to flatten dough balls.

  • Using red food coloring is totally optional; it does add a pop of brightness to the cookies
