Ingredients list for the sauteed green beans with french onions
- 2poundsfresh green beans, trimmed
- 2 tablespoonsunsalted butter (divided, can also use coconut oil or canola oil)
- 5 largeonions, thinly sliced
- 3clovesgarlic, minced
- 1/4 cupchicken broth
- 1/2teaspoonkosher salt + more to taste
- 1/4teaspoonfreshly ground black pepper + more to taste
- 1/4teaspoonred pepper flakes, optional

Directions
1. To make the sauteed green beans: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add fresh green beans and cook for one minute. Remove the green beans out of the water and soak themin a bowl of ice-cold water to stop the cooking. Draingreen beans and set them aside.
2. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions and season with salt and pepper. Cook for 5-8 minutes until soft. Reduce heat to medium and cook, stirring occasionally until onions are caramelized – about 15 minutes. Pour in 1/4 cup of broth to deglaze if your pan gets too dry, and keep stirring until onions are browned.Stir in fresh minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Turn off the heat and set aside.
3. Allow your skillet to cool enough so you canwipe out the excess fat. Return the skillet to the stove over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon butter. When hot, add the blanched green beans, red pepper flakes, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally until heated through, about 1-2 minutes. Top with the French onion and serve the sauteed green beans immediately. Enjoy!❤️

Take your time at the grocery store to pick out the best looking green beans, one by one if necessary! You’ll want to choose fresh greens beans that are free from wrinkles or any spots that are becoming mushy.
How Long To Cook fresh Green Beans
As a general rule, you can cook green beans from raw to crisp-tender in about 4 minutes. 2 or 3 minutes after blanching should be okay, but you can cook for longer if you like them well tender.
