Tingyun is an expert when it comes to boosting her allies' attacks and buffing their Energy regeneration, and we wouldn't expect otherwise from the famed Amicassador of the Xianzhou Luofu's Sky-Faring Commission. This sly Foxian woman is an amazing 4-star support character for teams relying heavily on Ultimate abilities.
If you want to know more about her abilities and best build options, here's a Honkai: Star Rail Tingyun Guide.
How to Get Tingyun
As part of the original Honkai: Star Rail roster, Tingyun has been available as a playable character since the game's release. She's permanently featured on both the Regular Warp Banner and the Character Event Warp Banner, but keep in mind that the latter has three "featured" 4-star characters who receive an increased drop rate. If Tingyun is featured on the Character Event Warp, you'll have a much higher chance to obtain her.

Tingyun Abilities and Playstyle
- Basic ATK: Tingyun deals Lightning DMG equal to 50% of her ATK to a single enemy.
- Skill: Grants a single ally Benediction, which increases their ATK by 25%, up to 15% of Tingyun's current ATK. When the ally with Benediction attacks, they will deal Additional Lightning DMG equal to 20% of that ally's ATK for 1 time. Benediction lasts for 3 turns and is only effective on the most recent receiver of Tingyun's Skill.
- Ultimate: Regenerates 50 Energy for a single ally and increases the target's DMG by 20% for 2 turns.
- Talent: When an enemy is attacked by Tingyun, the ally with Benediction immediately deals Additional Lightning DMG equal to 30% of that ally's ATK to the same enemy.
- Technique: Tingyun immediately regenerates 50 Energy upon using her Technique.
Tingyun's most important ability is her Ultimate. Not only does it buff an ally's attack power, but it also regenerates a massive amount of Energy. For a DPS like Dan Heng, who has an Energy Cost of 100, this means that half his Energy bar is instantly filled. Furthermore, even though the attack boost would be wasted on a healer or shield support, granting them an Energy refill could save your team in dire situations.
Tingyun's Skill provides a useful attack buff for a chosen ally, but remember that it partially scales with Tingyun's current attack power (not base or maximum attack power!) and only works on one ally at a time. That's perfectly fine though, because it grants Tingyun yet another support role: Skill Point restorer. By using her Basic Attack after her Skill, Tingyun restores Skill Points for the team while continuously triggering her Talent effect.
Don't start a battle with Tingyun's Technique unless her Energy is below 80. If it's close to zero, you can use her Technique twice. While it's generally quite helpful to have Tingyun buff an ally at the start of a battle, it's definitely not a requirement for victory.

Tingyun Traces
- Nourished Joviality (bonus ability Ascension 2): Tingyun's SPD increases by 20% for 1 turn after using her Skill.
- Knell Subdual (bonus ability Ascension 4): Increases Basic ATK DMG by 40%.
- Jubilant Passage (bonus ability Ascension 6): Tingyun immediately regenerates 5 Energy at the start of her turn.

You better stack up on Tingyun's Trace level-up materials, because almost all of her Trace levels are beneficial to her kit - after all, she makes use of every ability she has. This includes her three Bonus Abilities as shown above, which are each focused on a different skill.
If you don't have enough materials, it's best to prioritize Tingyun's Skill Traces, then her Ultimate, and then her Talent. Everything else may follow later. The only Traces you may ignore, are the defense and Lightning damage stat bonuses, as they don't improve Tingyun's combat role much.
Tingyun's Eidolon Levels
If the Warp system gives you another Tingyun, you can use this duplicate to upgrade Tingyun's Eidolon level (up to six times).
Eidolon Level | Name | Effect |
---|---|---|
1 | Windfall of Lucky Springs | After using their Ultimate, the ally with Benediction gains a 20% increase in SPD for 1 turn. |
2 | Gainfully Gives, Givingly Gains | The ally with Benediction regenerates 5 Energy after defeating an enemy. This effect can only be triggered once per turn. |
3 | Halcyon Bequest | Ultimate Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Basic ATK Lv. +1, up to a maximum of Lv. 10. |
4 | Jovial Versatility | The DMG multiplier provided by Benediction increases by 20%. |
5 | Sauntering Coquette | Skill Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Talent Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. |
6 | Peace Brings Wealth to All | Ultimate regenerates 10 more Energy for the target ally. |
To sum up, Tingyun's Eidolon levels mainly improve the buffs she grants to her allies, which is great, as she wouldn't have as much use for Eidolon bonuses focused on herself. The fourth one is especially useful, as it greatly improves the Skill's attack buff.
However, Tingyun is already a very strong support character, so you don't need the Eidolon levels to create an amazing Tingyun build.
Best Tingyun Build
To get the best Tingyun build, you need to equip the best Light Cones and Relics available. Whether you've already got a large stack of 5-star items or can only pick from 3-star gear for now, here's how to get the best Tingyun build.
Best Light Cones
Light Cone Name/Rarity | Light Cone Ability | How to Obtain | Notes | |
Chorus ✧✧✧ | After entering battle, increases the ATK of all allies by 8.0%. Effects of the same type cannot stack. | Gacha weapon banner | Offering a decent attack boost, it's the best of the 3-star options. | |
Carve the Moon, Weave the Clouds ✧✧✧✧ | At the start of battle and when the wearer's turn begins, one of the following effects is applied randomly: increase all allies' ATK by 10%, increase all allies' CRIT DMG by 12%, or increase all allies' Energy Regeneration Rate by 6%. The applied effect cannot be identical to the last effect applied, and will replace the previous effect. The applied effect will be removed when the wearer has been knocked down. Effects of a similar type cannot be stacked. | Nameless Honor (battle pass reward) | All three effects work great for Tingyun teams. | |
Dance! Dance! Dance! ✧✧✧✧ | When the wearer uses their Ultimate, all allies' actions are Advanced Forward by 16%. | Gacha weapon banner | A great option if Tingyun has a high Energy recharge rate. | |
But the Battle Isn't Over ✧✧✧✧✧ | Increases the wearer's Energy Regeneration Rate by 10% and regenerates 1 Skill Point when the wearer uses their Ultimate on an ally. This effect can be triggered after every 2 uses of the wearer's Ultimate. When the wearer uses their Skill, the next ally taking action (except the wearer) deals 30% more DMG for 1 turn. | Gacha weapon banner | Amazing Energy regeneration boost. Beware that the Skill-based effect heavily relies on attack order. |
The 5-star Light Cone But the Battle Isn't Over is the best Light Cone for Tingyun, as it makes recharging Energy even easier and grants free Skill Points. The only downside is that the action order matters, as the next ally taking action (which could be a healer, for example) receives the damage increase. Still, its impressive stats are worth the occasionally wasted attack boost.

Carve the Moon, Weave the Clouds is a great 4-star option. While the effects are random, they should all be beneficial to your team's DPS. However, as this Light Cone is a battle pass reward, you may not be able to get it, in which case the 4-star Dance! Dance! Dance! Light Cone provides a good alternative. If you build Tingyun with a high Energy recharge stat, she can easily trigger this Light Cone's effect.
If you don't have any of the above, Chorus is a solid 3-star option. It simply increases the team's attack power, which is always welcome.
Best Relics and Ornaments
Relic Name/Rarity | Relic Set Effect | How to Obtain | Notes | |
Musketeer of Wild Wheat - Cavern Relic | 2pc: ATK increases by 12%. 4pc: The wearer's SPD increases by 6% and Basic ATK DMG increases by 10%. | Cavern of Corrosion - Path of Drifting | The damage bonus is nice, but we'll mainly use this Relic set for the speed bonus. | |
Fleet of the Ageless - Planar Ornament | 2pc: Increases the wearer's Max HP by 12%. When the wearer's SPD reaches 120 or higher, all allies' ATK increases by 8%. | Simulated Universe | As Tingyun's speed easily reaches 120, this set offers a permanent attack buff for all allies. | |
Space Sealing Station - Planar Ornament | 2pc: Increases the wearer's ATK by 12%. When the wearer's SPD reaches 120 or higher, the wearer's ATK increases by an extra 12%. | Simulated Universe | Improves Tingyun's own attack power, and subsequently her Skill buff. |
The best Relic set for Tingyun is without a doubt the Musketeer of Wild Wheat set, as it improves her overall attack power and speed. The best Ornament set, however, is much harder to determine. Fleet of the Ageless grants a small buff to the whole team, while Space Sealing Station grants a much larger buff to Tingyun herself.
Space Sealing Station is typically Tingyun's best Ornament set for early-game builds. It will benefit the Skill bonus and help Tingyun deal more damage in a hybrid support/attack role.
However, there are two scenarios in which the Fleet of the Ageless is preferable: first of all, Tingyun's current attack may be high enough to exceed 25% of her DPS ally's base attack power (at Trace level 1), which means that Space Stealing Station's attack increase doesn't add to the Skill buff. Secondly, you may want to focus a little less on a single DPS character, especially if you use more than one DPS or if other allies also grant buffs based on attack power.
We'll discuss Tingyun's best stats in more detail below, but the main takeaway is that Fleet of the Ageless is the best Ornament set for Tingyun in mid- to late-game.
Best Stats
- Body: ATK%
- Feet: Speed
- Planar Sphere: ATK%
- Link Rope: Energy Regeneration Rate
- Sub stats: ATK%, Speed, Energy Regeneration Rate, Critical Rate
Finding the best stats for Tingyun isn’t as easy as you might think. True, her Skill buff scales with her current attack power, but the effect is limited by the recipient's base attack. In other words, if your Tingyun has a very high attack stat, it may exceed the amount of ATK% that the ally with Benediction is allowed to receive.
With that in mind, the best Tingyun build should not only focus on attack, but also on Energy regeneration and speed - to use the Ultimate more often, and to trigger the Talent effect with Tingyun’s Basic Attack, dealing a ton of extra Lightning damage. Go for the main stats as listed above, and you should be able to strike a nice balance.

Best Teams for Tingyun
Every great Tingyun team needs at least one strong DPS to benefit from her buffs. In most situations, it’s useful to have an additional DPS character and/or DPS-Support hybrid to increase your chances of matching your opponent’s Weakness type. With two different Elements besides Lightning on the team, you should be able to cover most enemy Weaknesses during a fight.
That said, Tingyun’s Skill buff can only be applied to one ally at a time. Likewise, she has to choose a single ally for her Ultimate. So if we forget enemy Weaknesses for a moment… Tingyun’s best team would actually consist of one overpowered DPS, Tingyun herself, another buff or debuff support, and a healer or shield provider. With the help of Silver Wolf, such a team is very much possible.
The Seele Hypercarry Team
Buff Support - Tingyun | DPS - Seele | Debuff Support - Silver Wolf | Healing Support - Bailu |
The idea is simple: Silver Wolf debuffs the opponent, thereby greatly reducing their defense, while Tingyun greatly buffs Seele’s attack. Silver Wolf also ensures that the opponent’s Weakness is Quantum, matching Seele’s Element. Seele will absolutely shatter the opponent, and Bailu is just there to provide first aid when necessary.
Free to Play Team
Buff Support - Tingyun | Second Buff Support - Asta | DPS - Dan Heng | Healing Support - Natasha |
If you don’t have any 5-star characters yet, don’t worry - Tingyun will greatly enhance any free-to-play team. As a fast DPS character capable of increasing his own critical rate and decreasing the opponent’s wind resistance, Dan Heng is a perfect companion for Tingyun. Add Natasha to the team for the necessary healing and Asta for additional speed and attack buffs, and your overpowered free-to-play team is ready for action. Remember that Asta’s attack bonus also increases Tingyun’s current attack, thereby increasing Tingyun’s Skill effect even more!
